Song of the Day: Run Boy Run by Woodkid

For those of you wondering, yes I did hear this first on the new O2 Priority advert, but adverts are a great way to be introduced to new music. And wow is this great.

The start isn’t the best but the further you get into the track the harder it is to tear yourself away. I don’t use the term mind-blowing often but this is a track that comes very close to that adjective.

I think this comes down to a very simple formulas; Morrisseyesque vocals + incredibly catchy and soaring music = optimum musical enjoyment. (more…)

Song of the Day: Stand By Me by Ben E. King

Indeed, Stand By Me is an old song, and one that you might not expect to see me post. But I rediscovered it a few days ago and forgot how much I loved it.

My first memory of it was, I think, Timon singing it to Pumbaa. I’m almost certain there was a video called Around The World With Timon and Pumbaa and towards the end the meerkat sang it to the warthog and it was always my favourite part, needless to say I was very young. (more…)

Song of the Day: O Children by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds

I absolutely love this track.

It was my first introduction to Nick Cave (aside from that dark duet he did with Kylie Minogue) and I had to confess myself addicted after one listen. I would spend entire bus journeys (which were about an hour and a half long) swept up in almost seven minutes of wonderfully moody vocals and submerging myself into the depths created by the lyrics. Song of the Day: On The Sea by Beach House

Ahhhhhhhhhhh On The Sea by Beach House is a really relaxing song. It actually sounds a little bit like Muse, not the singing or exuberant guitar solos, but the rest of the music. It sounds like some of their earlier stuff. (more…)

Song of the Day: I Am Not a Robot [Starsmith 24 Carat Remix] by Marina and the Diamonds

She might be poptastic but I do love a bit of Marina. I find that her lyrics have a more sincere meaning that most artists even bother to think about. I Am Not a Robot is one of her most famous songs and, as much as I never thought I would ever say this about a song, the remix is even better! (more…)
