Cultivating great musical taste

The Lionels

The Lionels are a wedding band that does the rounds along the South Coast. They had their time to shine at Victorious on the Real Ale Stage where they covered well-known hits from across musical eras. It seems a lot of their business comes from weddings and they are a popular choice, always pleasing the audience.

The band have a lot of experience from different parts of the live music industry and it certainly seems that they channel it all effectively into their live performances. The band consists of singer and guitarist Steve, guitarist Rick, bassist Rich and drummer Steve. While we did miss them at the festival we were able to catch up with them afterwards via the miracle of email. Rich took on our question cards.

Musical Nourishment (MN): What is your pet peeve?
Rich (R): Musicians who give us all a bad name by acting live divas.
MN: The person you would most like to meet and why?
R: My late granddad, who lived and fought in two World Wars but died when I was too young to remember him.
MN: If you curated your own festival who would headline and why?
R: The remaining members of Pink Floyd, because they are still the greatest band ever and I am too young to have seen them all play (and didn’t have tickets to Live 8).
MN: Tell me a secret.
R: A bird in the hand actually isn’t worth two in the bush.
MN: What is the weirdest experience you’ve ever had on tour?

R: Nearly getting run over by Bruce Forsythe driving a golf buggy at Wentworth Golf Club!

MN: Is there anything that The Lionels have coming up that you want to talk about?

R: Locally we are playing at the Glitz & Glamour Christmas parties at the Marriott hotel in Portsmouth, 18 and 20 December, and also at the same venue for NYE – tickets available from the hotel, these are the only local “public” shows we have coming up at the moment.

So that’s what The Lionels have going on. The next time you’ll be able to catch them at a public show is Christmas time. However, if you have an event that you would like to hire a band for then don’t forget The Lionels could be your choice! You can check them out through their Facebook and Twitter pages as well as their website.
