Cultivating great musical taste

Song of the Day: Wolf by First Aid Kit

This recommendation came from someone at work, and I glad I decided to give them a shot. Wolf by First Aid Kit is so good.

If you like your folk music then these are a band you need to listen to. The track is lively and engrossing and just a wonder to listen to.

The beginning of the song gives nothing away and the singing starts. The voice is amazing, taking on that typical folk/country note but not over doing it. I especially like the transition to different notes and how masterfully that’s done. When it gets to the chorus the vocals begin to match the pace of the guitar and drum and this is where it becomes a must repeat song. It’s this partnership that makes the track, it seems so effortless.

Then there are the lyrics, strong and memorable. It’s the tone of track that gets you to listen to everything else, which is exactly what has happened with me. There’s a melancholy behind each word, swiftly followed by a mild anger and this combination makes for a great listen.

The images created by the lyrics add that much more to the track, the words really bring it to life and of you can’t immerse yourself in a track then you can’t truly enjoy it, fortunately this is one you can utterly throw yourself into. With every listen there’s something new to discover.

I can’t even begin to guess how many times I’ve repeated this track.
