Song of the Day: Cold Heritage by Lacuna Coil

Ahh these Italian rockers, they’re a bit like home. You can wander around and explore as much as you like, each genre a new terrain, each song a new landmark. But after a while you crave for something familiar, and returning to it is comforting and refreshing. This visit back home is rejuvenating.

There are so many songs of theirs that you can use as your route back home, from each of their albums. The path I have chosen is CoId Heritage which winds it way from the town Unleashed Memories.

It’s a mellow song in comparison to the rest of their tracks, yet it’s still undeniably Lacuna Coil. There’s still that edge despite the softness of the song… well, soft for them.

I consider it a hidden gem, from my experience it is hardly ever cited as one of their great tracks, but it’s an understated one, beautifully written and performed. Although it’s not as aggressive as their other songs it still has the gothic appeal, Scabbia’s haunting vocals are once again the star of the track, but that’s not to say the rest is dull. without the drums and guitars this song would be nothing.

It’s hard to define why this song is so amazing, perhaps it’s the chorus, perhaps it’s the lyrics or perhaps it’s because it’s so different from everything else they’ve produced, it really is a standout track which will stay with you.

I have seen Lacuna Coil live quite a few times in the past six years, it took almost all of that time to hear this live it will always he main one of my favourite Lacuna Coil moments.

    • I’m glad you like it! If you’re interested in more of their stuff I recommend the albums ComaIies and Karmacode, and their most recent one, Dark Adrenaline, has an awesome cover of Losing My Religion on it.
