Song of the Day: Run Boy Run by Woodkid
For those of you wondering, yes I did hear this first on the new O2 Priority advert, but adverts are a great way to be introduced to new music. And wow is this great.
The start isn’t the best but the further you get into the track the harder it is to tear yourself away. I don’t use the term mind-blowing often but this is a track that comes very close to that adjective.
I think this comes down to a very simple formulas; Morrisseyesque vocals + incredibly catchy and soaring music = optimum musical enjoyment.
I think this song is lives up to the name of this blog. Not only does it nourish you musical taste but also your imagination. This could be a soundtrack to more than an advert, I can imagine it in a film or it could become synonymous with a TV show like Snow Patrol’s Cars did with Grey’s Anatomy.
As mentioned before, there is a Morrissey quality to the vocals. They’re deep and easy to drown in but the beat comes and drags you out, making you surf on a wave of awesomeness and by the time the song ends you’re completely drenched in its amazing sounds and want to go on that ride again.
In fact the music is so amazing it takes a few listens to actually hear the lyrics, and they happen to be pretty good too. not amazingly good where it’s easy to relate, but they’re not simplistic and there for the hell of it either.
The contrast between the vocals and music is pretty good too. the former is soothing and the latter is hectic and energetic, they mix well together.
