Song of the Day: Nemo by Nightwish

Although Tarja turned out to be a bit of a diva and was dismissed from the band as a result, Nemo, which was recorded during her reign does remain one of  Nightwish’s best songs.

I offer this to you because I find myself unable to locate a new track that I truly liked. So I reverted to one of my all time favourites. Do you know why I love this song so much?

It’s the introduction. That simple keyboard solo performed by Tuomas at the very beginning and later around the middle of the track. It’s pure beauty. It’s so typically Nightwish as well because it gets engulfed in guitars and drums and paves a way into the heavy, symphonic, power metal heaven that all fans know.

Even though the band come under metal they have a steady and catchy beat and they tend to focus on a clear and concise sounds rather than rush through everything.

Despite Tarja, in hindsight, being a little bit unlikable she has a wonderful voice. It’s that powerful voice that blasts the song and the band into a whole new dimension (of course I also think that Anette, the newish vocalist, does the job just as well if not better).

There is an epic scale to this track that means it is only suitable for arenas or outside venues and suggests that Nightwish are not to be taken lightly. And then there’re the lyrics, even though the band is from Finland their English is practically perfect. The lyrics are wonderful and picturesque and suit this grand song magnificently.

It is truly amazing.
