Song of the Day: Home by Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros
I have never ever heard of Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros before but oh my god this song, Home, is enough to convert me and send me foraging for more delectable tunes.
It has an infectious beat, the sort where you just have to tap your foot or nod your head because you have to somehow get your enthusiasm for it out. I think it’s the way they sing it as much as the music in the background that make it so catchy. Their voices go so well together as well, he has a gruff voice while she has one that compliments it perfectly.
Together and separately they are powerful yet the backbone of the entire thing is indeed the music. It sets up the atmosphere at the start and continues to shape and mould the track around itself.
I love how it starts with whistling, so simply and folksy, and then the rest of it kicks in and it sounds sort of jaunty and dramatic. When they duet they create the sort of sound that makes your spine shiver.
It’s a track that’s as unpredictable as it is great and is entirely and overwhelmingly enjoyable.
