Cultivating great musical taste

Song of the Day: The High Road by Broken Bells

Well, it doesn’t really get off to a good start. The introduction of The High Road by Broken Bells is a tad below par, it sounds like unsatisfying retro game music, yet don’t let that deter you, what’s to come is absolutely amazing.

I have to say this song is an example of the vocals making it great. There’s just something about his voice that completely carries it. Not that I don’t like the music, it gets better and it’s actually really good, but it’s the voice that draws me in. It’s like he has utterly connected with the lyrics so he’s delivering it perfectly.

It’s sort of slow-paced and softly muttered for a while until he starts to belt the words out, but it doesn’t matter how he sings it, he always has this certain quality to his voice.

Anyway, give it a listen and let me know what you think!

  1. Yeah, first 25 seconds aren’t great but then it’s surprisingly moving. I’m taken back to college and rain for some reason when I listen to this.
I think it would be better though without the warped sounds.

    • It’s always good when a song takes you back somewhere, as long as that somewhere is good! But yeah, taking the warped sounds out would be an improvement!

      • Back in 2009; it was a free iTunes download, I usually don’t like their free songs but I listened to it and love it!
