Cultivating great musical taste

Song of the Day: A Thousand Years Cover by The Piano Guys

Well, from a previous Song of the Day you all know I love Christina Perri. She has such a wonderful voice and is an amazing songwriter. But this cover of her track A Thousand Years by The Piano Guys is absolutely beautiful.

I like to think I have an eclectic taste n music, even if it is being eclipse by folk music at the moment, but I don’t spend much time listening to classical music or even just piano pieces, I used to in college when I was revising but since then I’ve sort of just dismissed it. A problem I have resolved to tackle.

There is something amazing about that sort of music, it’s pure and unhindered, it can tell a tale without any lyrics, and even though A Thousand Years was created and sung by Christina Perri only the music is really needed to tell the story.

It’s a touching piece, able to draw out all sorts of emotions and the piano and cello truly blend well together. They make a heavenly sound. Only something as beautiful as this could elicit such joy, it is an uplifting track with sad undertones, actually they’re almost bittersweet.

I dare you to listen to this and not fall in love. It is impossible, it worms its way into your heart and there’s nothing else you want to listen to except for this. It takes you on a journey, what sort of journey it is entirely depends on the listener but if you love music, if you truly and honestly love it, you must listen to this song.

  1. It’s amazing how such a simple chord progression and variations of it can speak so deeply. Thank you for this post! I recommend Gabriel’s Oboe by Yo-yo ma if you havent already heard it.

    • Indeed, it’s just so lovely. I don’t understand classical music in terms of being able to play it, but the result is always brilliant to listen to, it can reach you in a way that contemporary music doesn’t (even though this is a cover of a contemporary song haha). Thank you for stopping by, and thanks for your suggestion, I will certainly check it out!
