Song of the Day: The Lonely by Christina Perri
I know Christina Perri is relatively well known but I was listening to her album Lovestrong last night and it’s just enthralling. The Lonely might not be as popular and adored as Jar of Hearts but that doesn;t stop it being one of the best tracks she has produced.
It’s completely depressing, but sometimes those are just the best type of songs. The vocals are sombre, the piano is atmospheric and Perri’s performance just grows in strength throughout. The lyrics are amazing too, especially the chorus:
I’m the ghost of a girl that I want to be most.
I’m the shell of a girl that I used to know well.
One thing to look out for with artists is their ability to write a good song and with Perri the lyrics are sincere, put in almost anyone elses hands and that would not be the case.
It’s therapeutic too, although mournful, singing along to this track can be fun, in a way you feel better afterwards even if the improvement is slight.
This is one of my all time favourite songs, though saying that I do have a lot of all time favourite songs.
