Song of the Day: The Morning by The Ryan O’Reilly Band

From the very first note you know you’re in for something special, but you don’t realise just how special. For the most part it’s slow-paced but with a unique edge. It’s like a slow march but with haunting vocals and is accompanied by simple but effective lyrics.

Unlike most songs where they build up to a crescendoing end this one stays steady and consistent and doesn’t vary far from the unyielding backbone of the track. The only time the band splash out on sound with this track is the chorus but even so it still doesn’t change much.

There’s a lot to be said for simplicity and this song is the perfect example. Then there’s the seamless way the vocals slip from one pitch to another, the singer has perfect control over his voice and makes it sound just like another instrument.
