Cultivating great musical taste

Song of the Day: While Your Lips are Still Red by Nightwish

If you’ve heard of Nightwish you’re probably expecting some sort of power metal the likes of Wanderlust or Wish I had an Angel with the operatic tones of Tarja or perhaps the poppish but nevertheless amazing vocals of Anette with the bark of Marco thrown in for good measure.

But this s not the case with While Your Lips are Still Red. It was written for a film called Lieksa! which came out back in 2007 and instead of the precise speed of Emppu, Marco and Tuomas as they all work as one masterful musical machine you have an almost calm if somewhat mournful backing set to the surpisingly emotional crooning of Marco.

It might be entirely different from every other Nightwish track available but that certainly makes it more memorable. It lacks the power of Nemo, the orchestral awe of Ghost Love Score and atmosphere of Creek Mary’s Blood but it has a charm all of its own.

In fact it is a brilliant song, just like every other song Nightwish have created together and if I was lucky enough to be able to attend their gig in London later this year I would be hoping they might break this one out.
